Welcome the season with a joyful collection of music from around the world. Featured in this international program of holiday music will be Italian composer, Ottorino Respighi's lovely "Laud to the Nativity," an earthy and simple Christmas work that focuses on the simple shepherds and Mary herself. Respighi's folksy tunes combine quite harmoniously with the poetry of 13th century Franciscan friar Jacopone da Todi. These Bolognese gentlemen give us music with plenty of sweet and joyous moments for the season.
The Chorale presents two setting of the Requiem mass by two great French masters – Gabriel Faure and Maurice Durufle. These evocative works paint both tender and passionate musical pictures of our yearnings for comfort and the promise of hope. You will hear both an eloquent voice of human grief, and cinematically perfect songs of joy and "peace at the last."
From Bach to Broadway – "food, glorious food" is celebrated in a delightful array of choral music to suit every taste. Come indulge your musical appetite with Bach's light-hearted family drama about coffee; a scrumptious feast of music from the fellow that gave us West Side Story; and a "sweet" of musical offerings fit for the pickiest foodie from our own artistic director, Allan Petker.
The Santa Clarita Master Chorale would not be as successful as it is without the tireless efforts of its volunteer base. Whether you would like to help out for a few hours on a bulk mailing or take on a major function within publicity or fund-raising, there’s plenty from which to choose.
